A large very rare ecclesiastical oil painting on canvas, thought to have been commissioned by the Macau diocese, depicting a major biblical scene possibly the transfiguration or second coming of Jesus Christ. The background forms a mountainous landscape of Chinese temples, a pagoda amongst banana trees and a coastline with tethered junks. In the foreground a group of Portuguese devotees in rich silk robes, adjacent stand a large group of Chinese converts looking up in awe at Jesus suspended in a cloud surrounded by angels. On the ground lies a curious collection of items, including blooded weapons, chains, a severed sculpture of a woman's torso and a priest’s mitre.
